Call for Writer’s Residency Proposals 2026

RM encourages the participation of various practitioners, including writers of art criticism, experimental texts, poetry, and fiction, and invites proposals for our 2026 writer’s residency programme. This residency seeks to provide further support and opportunities for arts writing.

Our intention at RM is to engage with both emerging and more seasoned practitioners, we invite writers of all levels of experience to apply. This residency is in keeping with our wider aims: to engage with the practices, discourses, and modes of presentation that aren’t well-supported or easily accessible in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Four successful applicants will receive $1200 each to produce a text, and will have access to occupy our Archive Room for the four-month duration of the residency. The work of residents will be published online or displayed at RM, in a small run printed compilation. While this call out is open to international applicants, RM is unable to provide travel fees & accommodation.

Proposals are due by midnight Sunday, 22 March, 2026.

Please include in your proposal:

A written statement (500 words)

A written outline of the proposed work, with a background of your practice and an overview of what you intend to write for the residency.
This proposal is merely a starting point, and we acknowledge that your text may diverge from this initial proposition.
As practising artists, we understand that most texts will tend to develop and diverge from what has been suggested within the proposal.
We see the proposal as a starting point for a conversation with you: an introduction into a text that is still in the working phase.
